Fondation Mérieux Conference – Herpes Virus and Immunity – June 18-20, 2012 - France
The herpes viridae family (herpes viruses) consists of numerous viral species, five of which are highly prevalent throughout the world and have particular impact on human health: herpes simplex virus (HSV) types 1 and 2, varicella virus (VZV), Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and cytomegalovirus (CMV).
While vaccines are available to prevent varicella in children and zoster in older adults, HSV remains a particularly pressing target for vaccine development due to its transmission to newborns at birth as well as its enhancement of susceptibility to HIV infection.
The conference aims to provide a forum for the exchange of information and ideas on the subject of HSV in the hope of boosting the development of novel immunotherapeutic and immunoprophylactic approaches.
